The other day I spotted a fly sitting on a curtain. After thirty minutes or so it was still there, so I got the camera. I think it was getting old - it didn't seem to want to move very far, much preferring to walk than fly anywhere.
This is a common housefly - a female. The way to tell its a female (according to Wikipedia anyway) is by the eyes - females have a much larger space between their two eyes than males. Its amazing what you can learn on the internet.

The depth of field in these insect macro's reminds me of story from the directors commentary on Tron.
Apparently they shot it using 65mm film, and at when shooting someone in 3/4 profile the camera man had to ask the director which eye he wanted in focus. The shots where you see several people, receding into the distance, had to put together from different shots.
Very cool image Dave! Interesting thing about the distance of separation of the eyes with fly’s, did you know that studies show that humans typically prefer the beauty of women with eyes further apart, and that this is indeed represented with models?
My wife’s eyes must be a long way apart because she is a real beauty! Either that or she is blind since she married me!
