The Great Fire of (East) London

I've been really bad lately - only one post in November, and now here we are almost a third of the way through December! I have some catching up to do.

Well actually that's not really true - for some reason I haven't been taking many photos recently so there's not much to catch up on. Various things have been getting in the way - busy at work, busy at home, it's dark now when I leave the house in the morning and when I get back at night, I've been doing some extra curricular work designing a website and when I have had some free time I've been playing Crysis.

Even the photos I did take last month went untouched until today when I finally got around to downloading them onto my PC and playing around with them ... Back in the middle of November there was a large fire in the East of London on the site of a future Olympics venue. From our office we had an amazing view of the huge plume of smoke and could see the flames when they were at their highest.

So, even though they are four weeks late and this isn't news any more, here are a couple of those photos. In the first one I like the way the smoke takes the shape of a dolphin jumping from the ground, and the fact there is a plane that seems to be flying straight for it. The second has been messed with a little to make the plume more ominous.

David, if you didn't say anything about the dolphin, I wouldn't noticed. That must have been really big fire, this is huge cloud. BTW I know what you mean about being busy and days being shorter too, and cold too, it is really hard to get out the house and have energy too. Been eating tones of vitamin D, but I don't see any changes, busy at work and cold is not going away, lol. Anna :)

That's a great photo Dave! Like Anna, I wouldn't have noticed the dolphin either but I see it now. Also I didn't realise that there was a big fire in London. I have family in London but north London. Where were you when you took this shot?!

Thanks for stopping by my blogs and leaving those comments. I didn't think anyone would visit after my long absence!

Wishing you and you family a wonderful Christmas!

Hi Anna
Thanks for your comment.
I think everyone has a cold at the moment. I'm struggling on the edge of fending one away - a slightly sore throat for a few days now and feeling a little bunged up when I get up in the morning, but hopefully it won't progress into something worse.

Hi AB,
its good to see you back blogging!
The shot was taken from my office - Centre Point in London's west-end. We work on the 25th floor so get a good view around.
Happy Christmas to you also!

Dave, I am sure you know this, drink lot of fluids. I just finished my cold, and I don't want to see another cup of chicken soup or hot lemon water with honey, or hot milk and honey, lol. Anna :)

Merry Christmas Dave!

Cool images, didn’t catch it on the news….

The dolphin imagery is pretty interesting and I like how you played around with the second image…it looks scary....of course there is the harpoon plane….London needs some more tall buildings :)

I sure hope we don’t have anything like this around our 2010 Winter Olympic sites in Vancouver/Whistler (whoops hope I didn’t break copy write by saying that, they are very protectionist)!

Do you have all your Christmas shopping done? Get some time off?

Hey LS - thanks for your comment - always appreciated :-)
Happy Christmas to you and CG also. Shopping is almost all finished - just the part that annoys me the most to do now - the wrapping. I'm no good at it and it gets me in a mood :-)
I'm working Monday and then off until the new year - and this year we're staying at home while people visit us for a change. Means we have to cook our own Christmas turkey, but it should be fun.
How about you?

Hi Dave…

Thanks for the “Happy Christmas”, I am also almost finished the shopping, and I am also very bad at the wrapping!!!!! A few years ago I discovered this huge Christmas sock that I use for all of Chocolate Girls gifts; I place them deep into its foot part! Plus I use those fancy gift bags…there are some gifts I wrap but others fortunately Chocolate Girl has mercy upon me and wraps them for me!

We never go away over Christmas, and work is actually crazy busy as my boss and others leave for the holidays which means loads more work for me, I work Monday but I do get Christmas and Boxing day off….

One of the benefits of having a baby around is that others can come to you…..:)

So you have Christmas turkey….do you like stuffing and cranberry sauce? Do you guys give thanks before the meal on these occasions?

I get three days of Christmas celebration, Christmas eve with CG’s family (German heritage so that’s why its Christmas eve), Christmas day we get together with my family at one of the huge downtown hotel Christmas buffets, then on Boxing day we get together at one of my sisters places for another meal! I am already upping my workout!!!!
