Last year the trees all seemed to change overnight - almost like they had all been waiting for each other and then started a great race. This year they are taking their time, changing one at a time, which means the colours last for much longer.
The photo below is my favourite from the morning (yeah OK, I mucked around with the dodge and burn tools in Photoshop a bit, but it looks good). This is from the same stand of trees that I shot last November. Last year all the trees were at the same stage, whereas this year you can still see green in the background.

... PUH-LEEZE!
Dave,
This is an extremely gorgeous Autumn blog!
That matt of leaves seems so cozy: I feel like laying down there and rest...
Here, in Portugal, the trees are also changing its colours one by one...don't know what's happening, but it's a nice change; isn't it? As you said the colours last longer :).
Is that fog, in the background?
Cheers
@ Jim
hahahaha. You click on a link that says 'Dave's Photo Blog' then complain when it takes you to a blog containing photos. Nice one.
@ Max
Thanks for the kind words. Unfortunately it looks more cosy than it is - it's a little cold and wet to be lying under trees in the park right now.
The background I lightened in photoshop so it looks like fog - cheated a bit sorry :-)
Dave
Hi Dave;
Stunning pic my man! Absolutely stunning!
I love the perspective you created by lying in the ground…one of your best images Dave, I feel privileged just to look at it!
Very nice photo work…
I’m just sitting here shaking my head looking at this image…I think I will have to put on Vivaldi’s Four Seasons…
By the way if you would like to send Jim my way I’ll show him around my blogs :)
Hi Dave;
I love the yellows in the photo…talk about a good eye for color!
Looking forward to your next article…
Lovely pic!

Ah ok - I really thought you had the drive to wake up early and get a pic before the fog disappeared -With how chilly it is these days. And I was thinking I should do too.
eh hey btw I got 100 ways to take better landscape photographs by guy edwardes as my leaving present :-) how cool. If you are thinking of asking - I would let you borrow for a short while.
Nice one KK.
There's no way I'm getting up any earlier than I have to unless there's something important going on. And even then I would grumble.
Good luck with the book - let me know if its any good. I'd like to take a look sometime. Stay in touch mate
Your banner is so gorgeous.. do you what island that may be ? I think it appeared in my dream once, felt like deja vu.. anyway.. keep up the good work!

AWESOME PHOTO. So beautiful! I wish we had some seasons around here.
BTW, thanks. NOW, I know how to use the dodge and burn tools. I always wondered what the heck they were! LOL. (seriously though, THANKS!)
@ evelgal
Thanks for the comment. I'm not sure of the name of the island exactly, but it's one of the ones in the Cook Straight near South Island New Zealand - taken on a ferry trip between the two islands on my honeymoon two years ago.
@ Laura
Yeah, I've never really known how to use these tools before and just thought I would experiment with this photo. I think it's a case of picking the right shots to fiddle with as I don't think it would work everywhere, but for some photos it really can make a difference.
Hi Dave;
This photo looks great again and again!
Anyways you are “it” tagged “it” that is…an interesting question for you…

David, this is great photo and the angle you took at - it is hard to see your muck up, did great job with it. Love the colors, and I love the fall, favorite time of the year for many reasons. BTW nice to meet you and you yourself have very nice photo blog here, including your photography. Anna :)
